What compelled you to take over your mother’s workshop?
I started to realise that a profession that seemed so ordinary to me was in fact very rare and precious. The professionals working in this field are so few in number that this craft might die out within a generation. So right from the start I wanted to incorporate modern, colourful and innovative elements in my products to attract younger customers.
What inspires your patterns and designs?
Our vast collection of ancient moulds is the basis for different patterns. My companion Susanne Spatt, her fashion label, our children and grandchildren, who are mostly part of our joint family, are my creative inspiration.

What materials do you print on?
Besides printing fabrics like silk, cotton or linen, I even print traditional Austrian lederhosen or leather gloves. We use our hand printed fabrics for scarfs, shawls and dresses as well as for handbags or braces.
How important is your location for your work?
My workshop is located in the rural heart of Austria, a region famous for its picturesque landscape and traditional lifestyle, so I draw creative energy from my regional roots. Our clients come from all over the world to enjoy our unique and genuine savoir-vivre – I like it that they bring parts of the world to a small Austrian village.
