Deconstructing nature

  • • Rūta enjoys surprises and experimentation
  • • Her works reflect the time she puts into them
  • • Every work has to be unique, authentic, original

The ceramic works of Rūta Indriūnaitė (aka Rutrut) balance art and design. Each of her vases is unique, moulded and carved by hand. In a fast-paced world where many choose low quality mass production, she challenges herself to create objects without an expiry date. She studies nature and analyses the structures within it, stylising them to create designs for her works. Rūta doesn't like working fast; she likes to emphasise the time she invests in her works. Her creation process is a balance between creativity and technical artistry; she is very critical of herself and doesn't tolerate technical mistakes, yet she loves to experiment.

Shadows

The design for this elegant set of porcelain cups drew inspiration from the play of light generated by the shadows of tree branches. Rūta achieved this effect by contrasting three bold colours: yellow, brown and black. The interior is glazed white.

Nature Morte vases

The design for these stoneware vases was inspired by the patterns and forms of a sunflower and complemented by natural, coarse, sand-like textures. Through its worked form, the object loses its function, and rather becomes a decorative piece, creating space around itself with rich colours.

Drops Christmas ornaments

The design for this series of handmade porcelain Christmas tree decorations draws on nature and warm childhood memories. Concave forms, accented with gold, aim to evoke the shape of a sunflower.
