Creating miniature worlds in paper

  • • Victor spent two years working in Milan in the creative scene
  • • He creates small paper models resembling theatre sets
  • • He is currently working on a carpet collection

At the age of 13, Victor Cadene met artist Edwige Delcambre, who taught him how to work with colour, as well as the history of furniture and the decorative arts. She also encouraged him to go to the School of Applied Arts in Valencia, the only school he ever attended. Victor subsequently moved into scenography and interior design. He now creates miniature worlds out of paper using the techniques of drawing and collage. These compositions are, as he describes, “sets from my imagination”. His inspirations for these fantasy worlds include Matisse, the timeless and colourful city of Milan, Neapolitan churches, Livio de Simone and the 2009 film Amore.

Le Lit National advert, distributed by AD magazine France

Resulting from a collaboration with the Maison Le Lit National (a century-old brand specialised in high end, made in France, bedding), this series of drawings explores and pays tribute to the company's past 100 years of activity. This work is inspired by the post-war period, using Bauhaus designs for the background decor panels. There is also a bust representing Coco Chanel, an essential figure of this period.

Maison Diptyque advert: Le Grand Bazar de Diptyque

This work draws its inspiration from the aesthetics and design of the first offices of the Maison Diptyque at 34 Boulevard Saint Germain. Busts placed on the table and shelves, as well as a white column, echo the founder’s deep admiration for ancient Greek artefacts. Jean Cocteau’s Orpheus looks over the scene, bridging the contemporary and classical worlds.
