Reflecting nature in glass

  • • Anett creates striking glass sculptures
  • • She combines glass with different materials
  • • She relishes space and time to reflect and contemplate

Hungarian born Anett Biliczki started her artistic education in Budapest and finished it only a few years ago at the Royal Danish Academy of Arts. Her glass craftsmanship skills led her to become technical assistant for several well-established glass artists in Scandinavia, despite her young age. Anett works primarily with glass, enjoying finding new ways to create objects. In some of her recent work, she combines gypsum with glass, exploring the differences between the durability of these two materials. By using the properties of glass such as its fragility, transparency and fluidity, her objects create associations with narratives of certain places, both imaginary and real ones. Other times, she expresses clashes between the human made urban landscape and the forces of nature.

Dueodde VII.

Dueodde VII. is a combination of two different composites of gypsum, dyed with ink. The sand carving process eroded the top layer to create a contrast between the clear form and the imperfect surface. The piece is reflecting upon the Japanese aesthetic of ‘Wabi-sabi’ and leaves space to appreciate the narrative of the material itself.

Halcyon

The cocoon shaped piece draws inspiration from a fictive winter scene. It is composed from kiln-worked glass and stringers, and cast into one with gypsum. The title refers to the peaceful calm winter days, known as “Halcyon days“ which originates from Greek mythology.

Last winter III

This wall relief is part of Anett’s Last winter series, the nuances of white are achieved through multiple firings of glass powders and frits. The piece is an abstract interpretation of the reminiscence of the winter landscapes both from Scandinavia, and from her home country, Hungary.

The blown tactile vessel carries the imprints of its origin. It was constructed from collected small silicone prints from Frauenau, a German town known for its history in glassmaking. The making process symbolizes how one becomes familiar with a new unknown place and how the mind puzzles together visual information to create a bigger picture.
