Training in conservation and historical carving

City & Guilds of London Art School dates back to 1854 when it started as a social enterprise. Today, it offers an important, specialist alternative to other models of applied arts higher education in the UK in the fields of contemporary fine art, conservation of cultural objects and historical carving (including architectural stone and ornamental woodcarving) at bachelor's and master's level, as well as a master's course in art and material histories. The specialist nature of the school means it focuses on excellence and provides one-to-one attention to students. It favours a student-centred approach and is committed to maintaining high levels of contact time with professionals. The courses are intensive, with high staff-to-student ratios and the tutors are inspiring practising professionals.
